APPLYING TO STUDY IN SWITZERLAND

Tuesday - 16/12/2025

Applying to study in Switzerland requires careful preparation, as the country maintains high academic standards and strict visa regulations for international students. Before beginning the application process, it is essential to understand the eligibility criteria, required documents, and the expectations set by Swiss educational institutions and immigration authorities. The following information outlines the key conditions for admission and the documents needed for a Swiss student visa.

Below is the guidance provided by Duc Anh EduConnect to help you prepare your application effectively:

  • Conditions for being accepted to study in Switzerland

  • The visa applicant must intend to attend a full-time course at a school;
  • The preparatory training of the applicant must correspond to the level of the intended study program;
  • The study program and duration must be clearly defined. The school administration must confirm that the applicant is academically capable of attending the course;
  • Foreign applicants must prove they have sufficient financial means;
  • Due to Switzerland’s policies for regulating the number of foreign residents and the challenges involved in granting study permits, approval is not guaranteed.

  • Required documents for the Swiss student visa include:

  1. Three long-stay visa application forms (type D), completed, with photos attached, and signed by the applicant;
  2. One additional passport-sized photo;
  3. A passport valid for at least three months beyond the planned date of arrival in Switzerland, with at least two blank pages. The passport will be returned to the applicant on the same day after the file is accepted;
  4. Photocopies of the passport: pages 2 and 3, and all pages containing Schengen visas (if any) and relevant entry/exit stamps;
  5. Certified copy and notarized translation of the residence permit for foreigners living in Vietnam (if applicable);
  6. Letter of admission and confirmation of tuition fee payment from the Swiss school;
  7. Proof of financial means for the intended period of stay in Switzerland: bank statement (savings account) of the applicant or financial sponsor, along with a signed and notarized financial guarantee letter;
  8. Curriculum vitae and a study motivation letter clearly stating the reason for choosing Switzerland, study plans, and commitment to leaving Switzerland after graduation;
  9. Certified copies and notarized translations of diplomas and transcripts from the most recently completed academic programs;
  10. If the program in Switzerland is taught in English: certified copy of valid IELTS certificate;
  11. For minor applicants:
  • Visa application form signed by both parents or legal guardians;
  • Parental/guardian consent letter allowing the child to study abroad, with notarized signatures (this may be combined in the same document as the financial guarantee);
  • Certified copies of the passports or ID cards of both parents or the legal guardian.

Notes:

  • Documents in Vietnamese must be submitted with a notarized translation (valid within six months) into one of Switzerland’s official languages (French, German, Italian) or English;
  • All documents must be in A4 size;
  • Documents from items 4 to 11 must be submitted with an additional photocopy;
  • The Consulate General only accepts complete and valid applications;
  • The Consulate General of Switzerland in Ho Chi Minh City and the Swiss Immigration Office may request additional documents or information if necessary;
  • Effective from 01/07/2025, the VFS Switzerland appointment booking system requires prepayment of the VFS service fee in order to complete appointment confirmation. If you wish to reschedule or cancel an existing appointment, please do so at least 3 days prior to the scheduled appointment date. For appointments successfully cancelled, the prepaid VFS service fee will be automatically refunded to the card used for booking. The standard processing time for refunds is 15 to 45 days from the date of cancellation. For details regarding the refund policy of the prepaid VFS service fee, please refer to the Refund Policy page on the system.
