Các trường đại học công lập Malaysia được nhà nước bao cấp về tài chính, chương trình cử nhân đào tạo bằng tiếng Mã Lai hoặc tiếng Anh (ít), tuy nhiên các chương trình sau đại học được đào tạo hoàn toàn bằng tiếng Anh. Có các chương trình học bổng của các trường dành cho sinh viên dạng nghiên cứu, tiến sỹ…
