APPLYING FOR STUDENT VISA IN NEW ZEALAND

Monday - 01/12/2025

Depending on your level of study, the school you apply to, and the overall strength of your application, your visa processing time may vary. A New Zealand student visa may be issued as a limited visa covering only the first course you enroll in, or it may cover your entire program, depending on how you register for your studies and how reliable the visa office assesses your application to be. Students are usually required to pay insurance for the full study period and make a tuition deposit as required by each school or the immigration department.

Student visas for high school and university programs that are not on the streamlined list (Non-SVP) require students to submit personal and academic documents, an offer of place, proof of tuition payment, and financial documents showing parents’ income (at least 35–40 million VND per month), savings book covering one year of living and tuition expenses, and other family assets. Visa processing time ranges from 4–8 weeks.

Student visas for diploma programs at non-priority institutions (Non-SVP), English-only courses, or standalone foundation studies at any institution require students to submit personal documents, academic records, an English certificate equivalent to PTE A 38 or IELTS 4.5 at minimum, an offer of place, proof of tuition payment, and financial documents showing parents’ income (at least 35–40 million VND per month), savings book deposited for at least two months and covering 1.5 years of tuition and living expenses, along with other family assets. Visa processing time ranges from 4–12 weeks.

Student visas for direct-entry pathways such as bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs at priority institutions (SVP) require students to submit personal and academic documents, an offer of place, and proof of tuition payment. Financial evidence such as parents’ income (minimum 35–40 million VND per month), savings books deposited for at least three months covering 1.5 years of expenses, and other family assets are not required unless specifically requested by the visa office during processing. Visa processing time ranges from 4–6 weeks.
