Australia has 42 universities, including 39 public and 3 private or international universities. Below is the list of Australian universities, organized by state.

  • Go8 (Group of Eight): Australia’s prestigious group of eight leading research universities.
  • RU (Regional University): Indicates that all campuses of the university are located in regional areas. Students studying at these campuses are eligible for an additional 1-year post-study work extension and receive an extra 5 migration points when applying for permanent residency.
  • RRU (Regional–Regional University): Indicates universities located in very low-population regional areas. Students studying here are eligible for an additional 2-year post-study work extension and receive an extra 5 migration points for permanent residency.
  • RUC (Regional University Campus): Indicates universities with one or more campuses in regional areas. Students studying at these campuses qualify for an additional 1-year post-study work extension and receive an extra 5 migration points when applying for permanent residency.
