Finland has the lowest population density among the countries of the European Union, with only about 18 people per km². Climate: warm summers, long and cold winters, especially in the northern region.

After World War II, Finland rapidly transformed from a backward agricultural economy into a highly developed industrial economy, among the top in Europe. Finland has built one of the world’s most comprehensive and progressive social welfare systems, ensuring good living conditions for all citizens and becoming one of the countries with the highest per-capita income in the world. Finland consistently ranks high in international rankings on education, economic competitiveness, civil liberties, quality of life, and human development.

Finland has been a member of the United Nations since 1955 and joined the European Union in 1995.
