Important notes when applying for a visa
I. Each visa type has different requirements regarding:
- Visa application procedures: For example: for a U.S. visa, you only need to complete the online form and then attend an in-person interview; the consular officer will inform you directly whether you are approved or not. If approved, the visa will be placed in your passport and returned to you a few days after the interview. For Australia and New Zealand, you must submit your application online, then book an appointment for biometrics and passport submission; your application will then be assessed, and the result will be sent to you via email as an E-visa (an electronic notice from the Department of Immigration rather than a visa sticker like the U.S.). For Canada and the United Kingdom, documents must be translated if required, submitted online, and then you must book an appointment for biometrics, present your passport, and submit copies of your application; only after that will the visa be assessed. For the Netherlands and Switzerland, visa applications are processed in the destination country; the results will be sent back to the company or to you, and you will then visit the respective embassy to have the visa affixed to your passport. Additionally, for a New Zealand student visa you do not need to pay tuition fees before the visa is issued, while for Australia and the U.K., a tuition deposit is required before lodging the visa application. For U.S., Dutch, and Swiss visas, a medical examination is not required, but for Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, a medical exam is mandatory.
- Visa assessment criteria: These vary depending on the purpose of your travel. For example, student visa requirements differ from those for tourist visas or residency visas.
- Visa documentation requirements: For example, for student visas to France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K., you do not need to provide proof of income. However, for the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, income documents from the financial sponsor are required. For Canada and New Zealand student visas, a police clearance certificate is required, whereas many other countries do not require this type of document.
- Visa application fees: For example, the U.S. student visa fee is approximately 535 USD, while Australia’s fee is 2.000 AUD, the UK’s fee is 524 GBP, and Canada’s fee is 150 CAD, etc;
- Visa processing times: For Germany and the Netherlands, visa processing may take around 8 weeks, while for Australia, some cases may be processed within 30 minutes after biometrics. For the U.S., you receive the decision immediately at the interview, whereas for Canada, the processing timeline cannot be clearly determined.
There are many other differences as well. Therefore, it is important that you communicate openly with us so that we can provide you with the most accurate and effective advice.
