COLLEGES IN SINGAPORE

Colleges in Singapore offer vocational and professional training programs, and students may study at either public or private institutions. Graduates from diploma programs can enter the workforce immediately or continue their studies at higher levels.

As in other countries, students may register for any field of study at these institutions across various levels:

  • Vocational Certificates: 3-6-12 months
  • Diploma: 1 year
  • Advanced Diploma: 1.5-2 years
  • Polytechnic Diplomas: 3 years
  1. Public Polytechnic Colleges (Polytechnics)

Singapore’s Polytechnic system offers Singapore’s national diploma programs.

There are five public Polytechnics, each enrolling approximately 15,000 students annually:

  1. Singapore Polytechnic/ 1954
  2. Ngee Ann Polytechnic/ 1963
  3. Temasek Polytechnic/ 1990
  4. Nanyang Polytechnic/ 1992
  5. Republic Polytechnic/ 2002

These institutions offer 3-year diploma programs and accept students who have completed O-Level qualifications or higher. They are multidisciplinary and highly regarded for their strengths in various fields. Popular and reputable areas of study include: Engineering, Business, Accountancy, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Mass Communications, Digital Media, Biotechnology, Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Nursing, Optometry, etc. All programs have strong practical and industry-oriented components, and around 40% of secondary school graduates in Singapore choose to study at a Polytechnic each year.

Polytechnic graduates may enter the workforce immediately or progress to universities in Singapore or abroad.

International Academic Partnerships

Polytechnics also collaborate with overseas universities to offer foreign degree programs locally. Examples include:

Ngee Ann Polytechnic partnering with Chapman University (USA) to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Producing for Film and Media Studies students.

Nanyang Polytechnic partnered with the University of Stirling (Scotland) to offer a Retail Marketing degree.

Private colleges and vocational institutes (including ITE-level programs) accept students who have completed O-Level qualifications and above.
