- F1, hoặc M1 là visa dành cho du học sinh học các khóa học toàn thời và dài hạn. Để được cấp visa loại này, học sinh cần được cấp I-20- là thư mời học khóa học toàn thời từ trường- có thể là khóa khóa tiếng Anh để chuẩn bị học lên phổ thông hay cao đẳng, đại học, hoặc thư mời học khóa học phổ thông, cao đẳng, đại học…
- J1 là visa dành cho du học sinh theo các chương trình trao đổi, giao lưu, tư vấn, đào tạo, nghiên cứu, giảng dạy, hoặc được làm việc với hình thức Au Pair và được phê chuẩn hoặc làm việc tạm thời. Để đươc cấp visa loại này, đối tác, trường học tại Mỹ cần cấp cho bạn mẫu DS-2019 – là thư mời/ xác nhận về việc bạn sẽ học/ làm tại đơn vị/ tổ chức của họ.
- F2 hoặc M2 là visa dành cho vợ/ chồng/ con của học sinh mang visa F1 hoặc M1.
