Canada có trên 95 trường đại học nổi tiếng thế giới về chất lượng giảng dạy và nghiên cứu và các trường đại học Canada phải tuân theo môt cách chặt chẽ quy định về bằng cấp và chất lượng đào tạo của chính phủ , vì thế, chất lượng đào tạo rất cao và bằng đại học Canada công nhận trên khắp thế giới.
Các trường đại học Canada được nhà nước tài trợ trên quy mô lớn, đào tạo trên 500 ngành học khác nhau ở bậc giáo dục cao, cấp bằng cử nhân, thạc sỹ, tiến sỹ, với số lượng sinh viên từ 1,000- 35,000 tại các trường khác nhau. Các trường đại học cũng có các mô hình đào tạo đa dạng: toàn thời, bán thời, trực tiếp trên lớp, online…
Học phí tại các trường có khác nhau, tùy theo quy định của tỉnh và của Ban giám hiệu trường. Các khóa đại học có thể là 3 năm-4 năm đến 7 năm, tùy ngành học và mô hình học tập sinh viên chọn. Các trường có yêu cầu đầu vào và tiêu chí đánh giá sinh viên riêng.
