Giáo dục đại học phụ thuộc vào chương trình học đã chọn tại các trường trung học. Đối với sinh viên đã tốt nghiệp trung học, chương trình đại học là phổ biến nhất. Những sinh viên theo học tại trường nghề sẽ được ghi thêm trình độ cao đẳng kỹ thuật hoặc Höhere Fachschule trong chương trình học của họ. Thụy Sĩ đứng thứ 2 về tỷ lệ học sinh quốc tế theo học chương trình đại học sau nước Úc.
Có 14 trường đại học công lập tại Thụy Sĩ, 10 trường trong số đó trực thuộc bang và thường dạy học các môn không về kỹ thuật. 4 trường còn lại do liên đoàn Thụy Sĩ quản lý và được biết đến như là “ Viện công nghệ liên bang Thụy Sĩ”.
Thụy Sĩ nổi tiếng về hệ thống giáo dục kinh doanh cao cấp. Trong các trường đại học và các trường đào tạo chương trình thạc sỹ quản trị kinh doanh hàng đầu trên thế giới như Viện quốc tế Phát triển quản lý St. Gallen là trường thuộc loại này.
Sinh viên Việt Nam có xu hướng chọn hai ngành học chính là: tài chính, quản trị khách sạn, đặc biệt là ngành quản trị khách sạn.
