Choosing an Emerging Major: Vietnamese Student Pursues a Career in the Booming Health and Wellness Industry
Thứ Ba - 02/06/2026
While many students continue to focus on familiar fields such as Business, Finance, and Information Technology, another discipline has been quietly gaining momentum in Australia and attracting increasing attention from employers: Exercise and Sport Science.
This is also the path chosen by Le Nguyen Tan Phu, a graduate of Western Australian International School System (WASS) in Ho Chi Minh City.
In June 2026, Phu will commence his Diploma of Health Science at Curtin College before progressing to the Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sport Science) at Curtin University—a field that remains relatively new to many Vietnamese students but is increasingly recognised for its strong global growth potential.
I. Following Both Passion and Future Trends
As artificial intelligence and automation continue to reshape numerous professions, the healthcare sector has emerged as one of the world’s most sustainable growth industries.
According to the Global Wellness Economy Monitor 2024 published by the Global Wellness Institute, the global wellness economy reached USD 6.3 trillion in 2023, accounting for more than 6% of global GDP, and is projected to grow to nearly USD 9 trillion by 2028.
The way people work may change, but the desire to live healthier lives, exercise more effectively, and improve overall wellbeing will always remain. This is why fields related to exercise science, sports, and health are receiving growing attention in Australia and other developed countries.
After exploring various study options and receiving guidance from the consultants at Duc Anh EduConnect, Phu decided to pursue Exercise and Sport Science at Curtin University.
Students in this discipline do far more than study sports. They learn how the human body functions and moves, how to prevent injuries, support rehabilitation, and improve community health through evidence-based scientific approaches.
One of the key attractions of this field is the diversity of career opportunities within a rapidly expanding industry. Graduates may work in professional sports organisations, community health agencies, rehabilitation clinics, research institutes, sports clubs, and healthcare-related businesses.
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, demand for professionals in Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science continues to grow alongside the expansion of Australia’s healthcare and community services sectors. LinkedIn has also identified Exercise Physiologist as one of Australia’s fast-growing occupations, reflecting increasing interest in movement-based health solutions.
This field is particularly suitable for students who are passionate about:
- Sports, physical activity, gym, and fitness;
- Preventive and proactive healthcare;
- Exercise science and rehabilitation;
- Management of sports, fitness, and wellness centres;
- Careers in athletic training or community health research.
For Phu, this is not only a promising academic pathway but also one that aligns perfectly with his interests, energetic personality, and long-term career aspirations.
II. A Smart Pathway from Curtin College to Curtin University
After carefully planning his study abroad journey with Duc Anh EduConnect, Phu chose the following pathway:
- Diploma of Health Science at Curtin College;
- Progression to the Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sport Science) at Curtin University.
This pathway is popular among international students because of its flexibility and supportive transition into university studies.
Rather than entering university directly, students are given additional time to adapt to the Australian education system, strengthen their academic skills, develop research capabilities, and improve their English proficiency in an international environment.
Upon successfully completing the Diploma program and meeting the required academic standards, students progress directly into the second year of their bachelor’s degree, allowing them to graduate within the same overall timeframe as a traditional undergraduate pathway.
Throughout the application process, the Duc Anh EduConnect team supported Phu and his family every step of the way—from academic and career counselling, university selection, and pathway planning to admission applications and student visa preparation.
Receiving his visa in March 2026 has given Phu ample time to prepare before departing for Australia in June.
III. Two Brothers, One Destination: Continuing a Family’s Trust in Australia
While Phu’s study abroad journey is only just beginning, his family already has firsthand experience with international education in Australia.
In 2023, Phu’s older brother, Le Nguyen Vinh Phu, began his studies in Australia with the support of Duc Anh EduConnect. He is currently pursuing a Pharmacy degree at Curtin University and has been selected as a Student Ambassador for StudyPerth, an organisation supported by the Government of Western Australia that connects and supports international students in Perth.

The positive experiences of the older brother gave the family greater confidence in choosing Duc Anh EduConnect once again to accompany Phu on his own study abroad journey.
For the family, the greatest value lies not only in receiving an offer letter or obtaining a student visa, but also in having a trusted partner who can provide long-term guidance in choosing the right academic pathway and supporting sustainable personal and professional development.
Congratulations once again to Le Nguyen Tan Phu as he prepares to begin this exciting new chapter at Curtin College and Curtin University. We wish him every success as he develops his potential, gains valuable international experiences, and works toward his career goals in health and sport science.
Not every future-focused field of study becomes widely recognised from the beginning. Sometimes, the advantage belongs to those who identify opportunities before the crowd does.
