Choosing an Emerging Major: Vietnamese Student Pursues a Career in the Booming Health and Wellness Industry

While many students continue to focus on familiar fields such as Business, Finance, and Information Technology, another discipline has been quietly gaining momentum in Australia and attracting increasing attention from employers: Exercise and Sport Science.
This is also the path chosen by Le Nguyen Tan Phu, a graduate of Western Australian International School System (WASS) in Ho Chi Minh City.
In June 2026, Phu will commence his Diploma of Health Science at Curtin College before progressing to the Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sport Science) at Curtin University—a field that remains relatively new to many Vietnamese students but is increasingly recognised for its strong global growth potential.
I. Following Both Passion and Future Trends
As artificial intelligence and automation continue to reshape numerous professions, the healthcare sector has emerged as one of the world’s most sustainable growth industries.
According to the Global Wellness Economy Monitor 2024 published by the Global Wellness Institute, the global wellness economy reached USD 6.3 trillion in 2023, accounting for more than 6% of global GDP, and is projected to grow to nearly USD 9 trillion by 2028.
The way people work may change, but the desire to live healthier lives, exercise more effectively, and improve overall wellbeing will always remain. This is why fields related to exercise science, sports, and health are receiving growing attention in Australia and other developed countries.

This field is particularly suitable for students who are passionate about:
- Sports, physical activity, gym, and fitness;
- Preventive and proactive healthcare;
- Exercise science and rehabilitation;
- Management of sports, fitness, and wellness centres;
- Careers in athletic training or community health research.
For Phu, this is not only a promising academic pathway but also one that aligns perfectly with his interests, energetic personality, and long-term career aspirations.
II. A Smart Pathway from Curtin College to Curtin University
After carefully planning his study abroad journey with Duc Anh EduConnect, Phu chose the following pathway:
