Many people assume that winning a prestigious full scholarship requires years of intense academic pressure or a family with substantial financial resources and a carefully planned long-term strategy.
However, the story of Tu Khanh Phuong, the student who has just been awarded the only 100% scholarship offered globally by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for the July 2026 intake, began in a much simpler way – in an ordinary family where she was encouraged to be heard, allowed to make mistakes, and given the opportunity to understand herself.

From Household Chores and Part-Time Work to Self-Discovery
Khánh Phương’s family never placed pressure on her to stand out or achieve remarkable results at an early age. Instead, her parents chose to accompany her through each stage of her development, allowing her to gradually discover her strengths, interests, and aspirations.
Reflecting on her daughter’s journey, her mother, Ms Le Thi Kim Oanh, shared:
“Everything started from Phuong’s own dream. Only then did our family begin exploring study abroad opportunities through Duc Anh EduConnect. Every competition she joined, every activity she participated in, and every new environment she experienced became another step towards understanding herself better.
“Our family always encouraged her to try new experiences and seize every opportunity that came her way. Through each experience, she could recognise what she had not done well and what she needed to improve, allowing her to become more self-aware and mature.”
Being given the freedom to explore herself did not make Khánh Phương complacent about her studies. On the contrary, once she understood her strengths, interests, and goals, she gradually built a very clear roadmap for her future.
Throughout her three years at the High School for Gifted Students in Foreign Languages, Khánh Phương consistently achieved outstanding academic results, including an impressive Grade 12 GPA of 9.8/10. She also built an exceptional academic profile, achieving an SAT score of 1,570/1,600, including a perfect 800/800 in Mathematics, as well as an IELTS score of 8.0, with a perfect 9.0 in Listening.
Beyond academics, Khánh Phương actively engaged in extracurricular and community activities. She participated in the “Literary Works on Stage” programme at her high school, became a speaker at TEDx Marie Curie Ha Dong Youth to share her story and inspire young people, and joined the Anh Moc Charity Project, which promotes English learning and provides educational materials to children in remote areas.
“Step by step, throughout her learning journey, Phuong continued to build on small achievements. Eventually, she was confident enough to prepare her scholarship application and was awarded the only 100% scholarship available globally for UTS’s July 2026 intake,” Ms Kim Oanh added.
