Professor Sarah Roberts-Thomson

Head (Dean) of the School of Pharmacy

Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, University of Queensland

Sarah is a first class Pharmacy Honours and PhD graduate from the University of Sydney. She has been at The University of Queensland since 1998 when she joined the School of Pharmacy. Her teaching responsibilities have been varied and included teaching biotechnology and cancer drug discovery to Pharmacy students. Her research is in the area of cancer, specifically breast cancer and calcium signalling within the breast cancer cells. Her work has been funded by competitive research funding from the US Department of Defense, Australian National Health and Medical Council, Australian Research Council and Cancer Council Queensland.

A priority of Sarah’s is to train the next generation of research scientists and her dedication and innovation in this area was rewarded in 2007 when she was awarded a UQ Research Supervision Excellence Award. Sarah subsequently held the position of Deputy Dean of the UQ Graduate School (2009 – 2011) where she was able to influence policy and research training across the University.

In 2012 Sarah took up the role of Associate Dean (Academic) in the Faculty of Health Sciences and then in 2014, with the restructure of the faculties, she became the Associate Dean (Academic) for the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences. In her role, Sarah has led initiatives including the introduction of a cross-faculty course for health students to learn about interprofessional collaborative practice. She also led a team that won a University teaching award in 2019 for the introduction of an ePortfolio for all students across the University. Sarah became the the Head (Dean) of the School of Pharmacy at The University of Queensland in June 2020.

Sarah is a registered Pharmacist and maintains an interest in her discipline, with board membership of the Pharmacists Board of Queensland (2003 – 2010) and as a current Councillor of the Australian Pharmacy Council. Sarah is also a non-executive director of UQ Health Care and of International Education Services Ltd.

In 2017 Sarah was awarded as a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy in recognition of her institution-wide leadership in teaching and learning in higher education.

Donna Guest is the dedicated International Development Manager for the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at The University of Queensland.  With more than 15 years of experience and expertise in international education, Donna plays a central role in enhancing international student recruitment and fostering global partnership opportunities for the faculty and it’s six schools.

She has completed postgraduate studies at The University of Queensland and has also lived and completed a year of her undergraduate studies in Southeast Asia as part of a student exchange arrangement.
