Professor Andrew Davey is the International Director for the Health Group, and Head of  School of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, at Griffith University. He completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in 1990 and his PhD in 1995 both from University of Wales, Cardiff. Following that he worked as a community pharmacist in the UK and New Zealand before taking up a teaching position at the University of Otago in 1999. In 2001, Prof Davey obtained a position as a lecturer at the University of Otago and moved to the University of South Australia in 2003 where he led the development of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science/Bachelor of Pharmacy Double Degree, and undertook a pre-clinical consultancy role for the Centre for Pharmaceutical Research. In 2011 Prof Davey was recruited to the Head of School position at Griffith University where has led the School through a period of significant change including the introduction of a new Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Pharmacology & Toxicology and Master of Pharmacy degree programs, two external School Reviews and re-accreditation of the School’s professional programs. Prof Davey’s leadership is seen as a major factor in the School’s increased research productivity and recent rises in national and world rankings, taking the School to a ranking of top 200 in the world in 2018. In addition, Prof Davey has initiated important teaching and research links with Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and India, as well as local institutions.

Prof Davey has supervised over 40 research students at honours level or above, secured over $2 million in research funding, published 100 significant research outputs including books, book chapters, refereed journal and conference papers, and industry reports.

Prof Davey is a highly regarded leader within the profession and the university. He has served on the National Executive of the Australasian Pharmaceutical Sciences Association (APSA; 2004-2008), been on the organising committee of 5 major conferences including convening the 2006 APSA conference, represented Australasia at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (2005, 2007), is a current member of the Council of Pharmacy Schools and represents pharmacy and pharmacology within the Griffith Health Group and the wider university. He has served on the South Australia AusBiotech committee and is a life member of the Asian Association of Pharmacy Schools. In 2014, Prof Davey was appointed to the Pharmaceutical Sub-committee of the TGA, the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Board, and in 2015 was made an Honorary Professor at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. He is a Specialist of the Hong Kong Council for the Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications and a Member of the TEQSA Register of Experts. In May 2017 he was appointed as the inaugural Director, International (Health) at Griffith University.
